Stupa Incense – Handmade in Nepal
The details
For the one whose mind won't switch off at night.
You know the feeling. Lights off, phone down, and your brain decides it's time to replay every conversation from the week.
Light a stick of Stupa incense. Watch the smoke curl. Breathe. Thirty minutes later the room is softer, and so are you.
"Is it safe to burn?"
It's the first thing everyone asks at our market stall, and it's the right question. Most cheap incense is made with synthetic perfume and leaves you with a headache.
Stupa incense is different. Every stick is hand-rolled in Nepal the traditional Buddhist way, from 100% natural Himalayan herbs, spices and barks. In its makers' words, it's all natural and non-toxic. The scent is mild, so it settles a room instead of taking it over.
Choose your blend
- Dorjee (turquoise box): woody and mysterious. Sang, clove, kuth, cinnamon, valerian and more than ten Himalayan spices. Named after the dorje, the Tibetan thunderbolt symbol of strength and clarity. For meditation, focus and grounding.
- Austha Suganda (red box): exotic, aromatic, gently sweet. Valerian, liquorice and natural herbs. From the Sanskrit for "eight fragrances", with the golden fish of good fortune on the box. For slow evenings and winding down.
Our blends change with every shipment from Nepal. When one's gone, it's gone until the next batch.
A box that didn't cost a tree
Every box is made from lokta paper, handmade in Nepal from the bark of the lokta shrub. The bark is harvested by hand and the shrub grows back, so no trees are cut down.

How to get 40 hours out of it
Almost every weak candle complaint is a first burn that got cut short. Five minutes of attention on day one and the whole jar burns clean to the glass.
- 1
Trim the wick to 5mm. Every time. A long wick smokes, and smoke isn’t a scent.
- 2
First burn, go long. Two to three hours, until the melted wax reaches the glass all the way round. Soy has a memory. Cut the first burn short and it’ll tunnel down the middle forever.
- 3
After that, two to three hours a go. Four is the limit. Any longer and the jar gets hot and the scent goes flat.
- 4
Wick drifting sideways? Nudge it back with a teaspoon while the wax is soft.
- 5
Snuff it, don’t blow it. Blowing flings soot across the wax and makes the room smell like a birthday party that went wrong.
Our 30-day promise
Don't love it? Tell us within 30 days and we'll pour it again in a different scent, or refund you in full. Either way you keep the first one.
What it's made of
Soy wax, a cotton wick, 8% fragrance oil, a glass jar. Nothing else. No paraffin, no dye, no lead in the wick.
Non-toxic, but it is still an open flame: flat surface, away from curtains and the cat, out before you leave the room, and stop at 1cm of wax left.
